ANGEL INVESTING & STARTUP JOURNEY AT DIANPING, THE UNICORN IN CHINA
Join us with a conversation with Ray Wang, a Berkeley Haas alum with years of experience in corporate, startups, and angel investing across the US and China.
He was an angel investor in Dianping which was founded by Berkeley Haas alumni in 2003. Later, he joined Dianping as CIO in 2010 to head up Dianping's transformation from a media service to a transactional commerce business. Dianping merged with Meituan to become Meituan-Dianping in 2015.
Meituan-Dianping is the Yelp+Uber+Expedia+Groupon of China. It's the 3rd largest Internet company in China with a market cap of $270+ billion.

Freeman's bio
Freeman Ding joined NLVC in late 2019. He mainly focuses on consumer internet and enterprise service sectors. He has over ten years of strategy, investment, product management and development experiences in internet, telecommunications and enterprise service sectors. Before joining NLVC, he worked in Xiang He Capital and led investment to the logistics internet platform Lalamove (or Huolala). Prior to Xiang He, he was the Director of Corporate Development at Dianping.com. He started to do investments and M&A when he was at Baidu’s Corporate Development team. His early career includes product management and development at Ericsson, UTStarcom and a start-up company.
Freeman holds a BS in Electrical Engineering and an MS in Computer Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and an MBA from Haas School of Business at University of California, Berkeley. He also serves as the President of Berkeley Haas Alumni Network Shanghai Chapter.
